Northumberland is open for business! That’s the message that was delivered to Westminster at a special event on Wednesday (22 May2019).
Business leaders and top tourist attractions from the county travelled to the capital to help spread the message about the Discover our Land campaign, which promotes Northumberland as a great place to live, work, visit and invest.
The showcase event, organised by Northumberland County Council and hosted by Lord Curry of Kirkharle, was held at the House of Lords on Wednesday and promoted everything which Northumberland has to offer both from a business and investment perspective.
Partners at the event included The Alnwick Garden; Northumberland National Park; Port of Blyth, NHS Northumbria International Alliance; The Alnwick Castle; Produced in Northumberland and Advance Northumberland.
Representatives from VisitBritain; Sport England, English Heritage and Highways England were invited to attend the event, along with peers and MPs from all over the UK.
Cllr Peter Jackson, Leader of Northumberland County Council, welcomed guests to the event and said: “Northumberland is the place for prosperity and innovation. We are a county that boasts international leaders in industry, investment-ready locations,
welcoming communities, a rich history and proud heritage, and globally significant tourist attractions, culture and landscapes.
“Discover our Land is all about telling the story of Northumberland through those individuals, communities and businesses who are already reaping the benefits of being located here.
“The House of Lords event was a fantastic opportunity to bring our story to the heart of Government to showcase what makes Northumberland so special, and to offer our businesses the chance to share their successes on a national platform.”
James Ramsbotham, Chief Executive of North East Chamber of Commerce said: “An event like this is really important in being able to put Northumberland on a national stage. It has given the county the opportunity to show some of its best examples of attractions and businesses and to start those discussions.
“The opportunities are huge in Northumberland, it has the most amazing locations for businesses of all types, an excellent transport infrastructure as well as a skilled workforce.”
Discover our Land was launched in January and since then more than 300 businesses and individuals have signed up to support the campaign. Campaign supporters include Egger UK; Deep Ocean; Moorland Spirit and Newcastle International Airport.
